New 849 dialing code will take effect from Monday

SANTO DOMINGO. - Beginning Monday, 15 this month a new dialing code will take effect in the country, in addition to 809 and 829.

This is the 849, announced today the president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), José Rafael Vargas.

The new code was applied to the U.S. authorities numbering administration because the 829, which took effect in 2005, and ran out.

Since that year the country has grown in telephony, especially mobile, to the point that today the percentage of the population over 97 phone.

"It's not a matter of inefficiency or excessive growth, but the trend that we have is what makes us have to take that code," said Joelle Exarhakos, executive director of Indotel.

Graduation

Vargas and Exarhakos spoke at the graduation of 201 young people from Youth Technology Entrepreneur Program (Juventec) in the areas of assembly, repair and maintenance of computers, web design, Java, among others. The program is conducted by Infotep, the ITLA and Indotel.
